Kernel Parameters
I'm a bit confused. I was under the impression that sysdef listed all the kernel parameters but going into sam > kernel parameters > configurable parameters (or somthing like that) produces a far greater list. I would like to save a list of these parameters (electronically rather than printing form sam) so is there somthing else rather than sysdef? i'm running 10.20 if that makes a difference.
Cheers,
Simon.

Re: Kernel Parameters
If you use SAM, tehre is an option under
Kernel Configuration -->
Configurable parameters -->
Files -->
to set the output to a file.

Re: Kernel Parameters
# /usr/lbin/sysadm/system_prep -s /tmp/kern_para_2
# adb -k -w /stand/system /dev/kmem > /tmp/kern_para_3
$e
$q
Hope this helps.

Re: Kernel Parameters
Either u can use File --> Print option from sam menu and redirect the out put to a file.
or
get the tunable parameters from /stand/system
Regards
Joe.

Re: Kernel Parameters
Additional, take a look at:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/os/KCparams.OverviewAll.html
I've found it pretty useful.

Re: Kernel Parameters
I've got my files now!
I'm still curious though as to what the difference in the lists are...
/stand/system gives me 29 parameters
sysdef gives me 50
SAM gives me 95

Re: Kernel Parameters
>>I'm still curious though as to what the >>difference in the lists are...
Many of the parameters are dependent
on the values of other parameters. For
instance, when you increase Maxusers it
increases other parameters which are
dependent on it (nfiles, nproc..)
The system file contains these "core" parameters. During kernel regen the
other values are derived from these.
SAM is the only one which lists every
parameter, since it gives you the choice
of overriding the "derived" value for
each of them (provided they are within
limits).
This is just my theory and understanding
of the difference.
HP has reduced this anamoly by the
Kmtune command in Hpux 11.00. But still,
i always prefer SAM to change kernel params
because it shows whether the values
are acceptable and within bounds immediately.
