L class server

Hi all,

Can someone tell me if an L2000 server can take both an inetrnal DVD ROM drive and a inetrnal DAT drive? We need to order this configuration and it seems L2000 can only take one of these. I dont mind one of the internal disk drive let go in place for DAT or DVD drive.
Thanks

Re: L class server

The L2000 can have only one of the following: internal CD/DVD drive OR internal DAT drive. Can have 4 internal hot-plug Hard Drives.

Re: L class server

Thanks Rick. I just checked the HP web site and its confirmed that L2000 can take only one of them. I hope they should have provisioned for both DVD drive and DAR drive internally.

Re: L class server

I ordered an additional scsii card and now have an internal DVD ROM drive and an external DLT tape drive. Our system is centered in a 2 meter cabinet. The DLT is located ontop of the L2000 accessable from the rear of the 2 meter cabinet. Not as good as an internal, but it works!

Re: L class server

An HP rep told me one time that they did this to keep the box small. Why take up a drive bay for a device that is rarely used. The CD is usually only used for upgrades or software loads. Their suggestion is to have a stand-alone CD drive that can be shared among several systems when needed. If you put 5 L systems in a rack, why buy 5 CD drives that you do not use. Just share one drive when needed. It makes some sense.
I believe they have a unit that rack mounts and holds a CD and a DAT that can be shared amongst the systems.

Thanks for the info. Anyone knows the part number for the rack to stack the external DAT drives ?

Re: L class server

If you want to use the "Smart" Devices, the product number is C4317A. You are able to put 2 DDS drives in one of this rack enclosures.
