L2000 (A5191A - rp5450) pci configuration
yesterday I installed 2 network cards Gb (A6825A) in a pair of L2000 machine (2 cards for each machine).
I solved some driver problem with the help of this forum but today I had some problem with 1 of the 2 cards.
These adapters are installed at the followinfg hardware path:
lan 5 0/1/0/0 igelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A6825-60101 PCI 1000Base-T Adapter
lan 6 0/5/0/0 igelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A6825-60101 PCI 1000Base-T Adapter
At the moment it seems that on both machine just the card in the slot 0/1/0/0 are working.
Is it possible that we have some slot related problemds ?
I don't know if this could help but our phisical distribution of the lan adapters is as following:
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=======================================================================
lan 0 0/0/0/0 btlan3 CLAIMED INTERFACE HP PCI 10/100Base-TX Core
/dev/diag/lan0 /dev/ether0 /dev/lan0
lan 5 0/1/0/0 igelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A6825-60101 PCI 1000Base-T Adapter
lan 1 0/3/0/0 btlan6 CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A3738A PCI 10/100Base-TX Ultimate Combo
/dev/diag/lan1 /dev/ether1 /dev/lan1
lan 3 0/4/0/0.5 fcT1_cntl CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Fibre Channel Mass Storage Cntl
/dev/fcms3
lan 6 0/5/0/0 igelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A6825-60101 PCI 1000Base-T Adapter
lan 4 0/6/0/0 btlan6 CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A3738A PCI 10/100Base-TX Ultimate Combo
/dev/diag/lan4 /dev/ether4 /dev/lan4
lan 2 0/7/0/0.5 fcT1_cntl CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Fibre Channel Mass Storage Cntl
/dev/fcms2
Thanks very much in advence for any help.
Kind regads,

Re: L2000 (A5191A - rp5450) pci configuration
I asked the operator to check and he told me that the card at the hardware path 0/5/0/0 (the one that doesn't work) has 2 lights, one fix green and another orange blinking (ACT).
The other adapter (that works) has just the green light on.
Probably this afternoon (or tomorrow morning) I'll go to the machine room to check myself how is the situation.

Re: L2000 (A5191A - rp5450) pci configuration
you can check the card state with SAM:
Peripheral Devices -> Cards
Networking and Communications -> Network Interface Cards

Re: L2000 (A5191A - rp5450) pci configuration
Those cards should be installed in slots 4 and 7. I've got great experience with rp5450 servers.
Only certain slots can handle the fober channel adapters. The machine doc on http://docs.hp.com will guide you.

Re: L2000 (A5191A - rp5450) pci configuration
the problem was in the cabling. There was a loop that doesn't permit those adapters to work.
My conclusion is that you can install the Giga Ethernet in any slot.
I agree anyway with Steven that if it's possible the best solution would be anyway to install the cards in the higher slots (mostly for priority/performance reasons).
Kind regards,
Daniel Hubeli
