Re: Lan Node becoming inactive

more detail please..

I looked at the results... I'm not 100% sure if this means anything or not, but it seems to me you have a few "FCS errors" & "allignment errors" and a even fewer "Frames too long" There are only a few % of the total IO (60 million).. BUT the packet length is about 20 bytes bith in and out, pritty small me thinks - possibly just telnet running on it??

Any way... check "netfmt -t 10 -f /var/adm/nettl.LOG00" and see if there is any indication of recent errors or disasters!

Do you loose total sight of the card? what does ioscan -funClan give?

Tim

Re: Lan Node becoming inactive

Moez,

I looked at those stats:

Inbound Unicast Packets = 60396919
Inbound Non-Unicast Packets = 276863
Inbound Discards = 0
Inbound Errors = 146417

You have alot of
problems on inbound packets, but it is not clear WHEN those errors occured. So the current rate may not be indicative of current reality. You may want to reset the statistics with lanadmin and continue to monitor.

If the errors continue to occur at the same percentage or higher(.3%), I think you have a problem with the network cable, switch port, or the switch port being set to half duplex instead of full duplex. Perhaps it has negiated differently from the HP Your 4-port 100BaseT card lan1 is set for 100-Full/Auto-negotiate. Many admins prefer to set both switch and NIC card at 100FD Manual (no autonegotiation).

You also have more than 1 port on that card, you could always try using another one of those to eliminate the HP as being the cause of the issue. Just make certain that the switch port and HP port are both set with the same speed and duplex.

Hope that helps,

Re: Lan Node becoming inactive

Hi,

Check and see if your card as well as the port on the switch where this system is connected is set for 100, Full Duplex, Fixed and not set to Autosense.

Hope this helps.

Re: Lan Node becoming inactive

lanadmin -x 1

If it shows autosense, change it and lock it into manual. Also have the switch port settings set to manual from autonegotiate which is the default on cisco switches.

This is especially important for Cisco switches.

To set the card the file is /etc/rc.config.d/hpbtlanconf

I'm attaching mine as an example.

Use it in good health.
