lan0 disabled, CDE does not start

HP-UX newbie here please help me restore my OS to the previous state. All I did was to disable the lan0 interface using the SAM and then at the next reboot some net services were not able to start and finally the CDE is not starting, I do not get to see the graphical login.
Everything worked great before disabling the lan0.
I'm using 11i B.11.11.
Any advice will be greately appreciated!!!

Re: lan0 disabled, CDE does not start

You have essentially lost your hostname resolution and CDE is very dependent upon that. You haven't identified your model but typically ESC during the boot cycle will get you to a console login.

If you have a GUI login then select Options->Session->failsafe Session and that will let you login.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: lan0 disabled, CDE does not start

At the console

Run this script:

set_parms

Make sure you know what the network configuration is supposed to be before you start.

This will let you set configuration and fix the lan0 issue.

At that point there is hope of a CDE login remotely from another syste.

if this is a local console CDE login, fixing the lan0 problem will probably fix everything.

Note that sam is not always good at networking. Better you learn to make minor changes in the /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file.

Don't make a backup of that file in /etc/rc.config.d It will load and your machine will be confused. Make a backup somewhere else.

If these steps do not lead to a solution a more thorough explanation of exactly what you did to cause the issue would be very helpful.

Re: lan0 disabled, CDE does not start

Totally agree about knowing to handle the text file. I am new to HP-UX but coming from the linux world where I had no need of any GUI so far :)
Thank you all, my problem has been resolved thanks to your advice. After taking care of the name resolution in /etc/hosts and updating the nsswitch.conf accordingly my CDE came back up immediately.
Many thanks!
