lanadmin options

Hello,

Could you please help me with following?

Is it possible (using lanadmin) for 1000B-T interface set 1000FD with autonegotiation turned on?

HP AB290-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T 2-port U320 SCSI/2-port 1000B-T Combo Adapter

I need following output:

Speed = 1000 Full-Duplex.
Autonegotiation = On.

Thanks in advance.

Re: lanadmin options

The recommended setting for 1000BT is AUTO. No need to specify speed, just AUTO and let it negotiate with the port to which it is connected. If the port is also properly set to auto-negotiate, then the result should be 1000BT.

Re: lanadmin options

Hi,

For autonegotiation=on, switch side also should be enabled.

#lanadmin â X 1000FD -> to set 1000FD

You can also use sam to set it.
Best wishes,

Ganesh.

Re: lanadmin options

Hi Ganessan,

I have tried 1000FD, but highest value for lanadmin command is 100FD.

But on running servers I have following output:

#lanadmin -x 0
Speed = 1000 Full-Duplex.
Autonegotiation = On.

Therefore I am looking for solution, how to make it same.

Thanks

Re: lanadmin options

Hi again,

Few things you need to keep in mind. Though card is capable of 1000Mbps, your cable and switch should be capable enough to support 1000Mbps.

what is the output of lanadmin -x on your server where do you want to set?

Goto sam--> network and communications--> Network interface cards--> select the card-->Actions-->modify
Best wishes,

Ganesh.

Re: lanadmin options

You're saying you want to specify "1000FD" in your lanadmin command? I believe that is not a valid option - because the card is supposed to be set to "AUTO". Look at the man pages. Look at the /etc/rc.config.d/hp*conf files. There is no such option.

Re: lanadmin options

Unlike the older 100BT, autonegotiation is a required part of the IEEE Specs for Gigabit Ethernet. As such, you can expect and demand it work correctly for NICs and switches. You should leave the HP-UX side set to autoneg, and, as previously suggested, make ceratin the other side (eg the switch port) is set for autoneg as well. Also make certain you are using a Gigabit-capable cable. Then you should get 1000FD.

If you get something else, please report it here _exactly_ and armed with that information, we can make better informed guesses as to what is wrong in your environment.
