Lancrad - APA issue

Hello All,

I have two systems, say A and B, running on HP-UX 11.23. Both are rx7620. I have configured APA on both the systems. lan0 and lan5 are both inbuilt cards.
HP A6794-60001 PCI 1000Base-T

Due to some IOS upgarde on router end, the lan speed on my servers got changed. Both of them became 100 HD Auto On.

When I issued the following command on system A, the lan speed changed to 100 FD Auto off

lanadmin -X 100FD auto_off 0
lanadmin -X 100FD auto_off 5

But, when I issued the same commands on system B, it gave the following error.

ERROR:could not process request

I had to stop APA and issue the lanadmin command to make it 100 FD Auto On.

On both A and B the following o/p is same.

$ swlist -l patch |grep -i Aggregation
# HP-APA-FMT B.11.23.05 HP Auto-Port Aggregation APA formatter product.
# HP-APA-KRN B.11.23.05 HP Auto-Port Aggregation APA kernel products.
# HP-APA-KRN.APA-KRN B.11.23.05 HP Auto-Port Aggregation APA kernel library
# HP-APA-LM B.11.23.05 HP Auto-Port Aggregation LM commands.
# HP-APA-RUN B.11.23.05 HP Auto-Port Aggregation APA command products.
# HP-APA-RUN.APA-RUN B.11.23.05 HP Auto-Port Aggregation APA command libraries
# HP-APA-SAM B.11.23.05 HP Auto-Port Aggregation APA SAM product.

Could any one please guide me how and why this has happened?

Regards,
Ravi.

Re: Lancrad - APA issue

Shalom ravi,

APA or no APA those NIC cards must be run auto-negotiate to function correctly.

It is not a correct response to an IOS router problem for you to bring your systems to their knees.

Put the systems back to auto-negotiate with lanadmin and have your network group put the routers into 1000 Base T full duplex, permitting auto negotiation.

Its not an APA problem. A good rule in IT is when the last thing you did breaks something, fix that last thing you did.

I of course could be wrong and there may be some patch related to your particular Cisco router, but I doubt it in this case.

Re: Lancrad - APA issue

Installed the patch PHNE_36403. Every thing looks fine.
