LanSafe 5.0.8 installation on a HP-UX 9000/800 server
Hi everyone.
I just installed LanSafe5.0.8 on a HP-UX 9000/800 server to control a Powerware9120
UPS. The plan is for the UPS to feed only the HP-UX server for the moment.
The Controller part of the LanSafe program was installed. The problem is that due to very limited documentation regarding the installed LanSafe utilities I cannot manage the software:
- I cannot confirm that the server can communicate with the UPS and vv.
- I cannot run any of the utilities in /Bin directory of the LanSafe installation since
I get:
"LanSafe - Fatal Error
"Unable to read configuration file. Reinstall LanSafe and try again."
- No documentation is provided on the files/directories installed.
- I did a test to see if the system responds in anyway to power failure: I unplugged the UPS from the main supply, waited for the shutdown delay period so that the system would start a gracefull shutdown, but nothing happened. The system would operate normally as if it was plugged directly to the main supply.
- The PowerMonitor process is able to run (i can see it in the list provided by the ps command).
- I was also able to open a terminal window when executing the PowerMonitorX utility in the /Bin directory of the Lansafe installation, reporting "PowerMonitor loaded" along with the date and time it was initiated.
But nothing else beyond that.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
PS: Yes I was a superuser when i tried all of the above, and yes the UPS has its communications enabled.

I forgot to mention that HP-UX v.10.20 is installed on the server, the communication is done through serial connection and that aCC A.01.21 runtime libraries patch is already installed on the server (a requirement according to LanSafe installation readme file).

Re: LanSafe 5.0.8 installation on a HP-UX 9000/800 server
Is's been a few days now that I finally resolved the problem:
HP9000/800/D390 servers have a "special" serial port for UPS connection, which I only found out while reading the Operators Guide for D Class servers (Chapter 1, page 1-21, Figure 1-10 explains how to connect a UPS to the server). Using the alternative RS-232 port to connect a UPS would cause communication problems between the server and the UPS.
