Re: large database Tuned Parameter set

Hi,

There are some templates in sam kernel configuration to create a kernel for databases. Do you think you can get some more information ?

Re: large database Tuned Parameter set

Having looked at sam I have otions but none of them refer to database config's

This machine will be running an C-ISAM Database.

Re: large database Tuned Parameter set

Hope this helps you.

Here is my kmtune output on a development server where I have a rather large 1.2TB DB with a few copies running...

These are fairly normal parms, imho, for a N-4000-55 with 32GB of memory...

Re: large database Tuned Parameter set

Under SAM->Kernel Configuration -> Configurable Parameters -> Actions -> Apply Tuned Paramter Set there may be a Database selection. It was dropped at 11.11 and you really don't want it nohow. You know far better than others what your machine/application requires. The database tuned parameter sets were infamous for setting timeslice to 1 (rather than 10) and that would absolutely cripple a box.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: large database Tuned Parameter set

Your best bet is to look at kmtune output from large database systems.

Our systems are not huge, but we tune for growth. Here is some sample output. It is not the bible, its something to think about.

I would warn you that A D320 is not very fast and can't really handle massive databases. I have one in my basement(because nobody else wanted it when we obsoleted it). It can effectively run Oracle but due to limits in memory capacity can't effectively run really huge databases.

Re: large database Tuned Parameter set

Thanks for you help. The machine is running a medium sized C-ISAM database though I may try running it on a spare B1000 workstation I have to improve performace.
