I'm planning to change the nolargefiles support to largefiles using the following:
fsadm -F vxfs -o largefiles /opt/app/amdocs
My question is:
1)any impact if I do it online. Will it caused corruptions. Currently this is production application hosting filesystem. I'm not able to backup due to 2gb limitations
thanx for helping

Re: largefiles support
If Online JFS install in ur server then u can use fsadm for filesystem without down ur server. You can also extend filesystem without down ur server.
However for precaution, you should take make_tape_recovery backup for doing anything with ur server.
Hope. it will resolve ur problem.

Re: largefiles support
Setting the flag with the -o largefiles option succeeds only if the file system has the Version 3 disk layout or above. Clearing the flag with the -o nolargefiles option succeeds only if the flag is set and there are no large files present on the file system.
The -o largefiles and -o nolargefiles options are the only fsadm options that can be used on an unmounted file system. An unmounted file system can be specified by invoking fsadm with a special device rather than a mount point. If an unmounted file system is specified, it must be clean.
Changing the largefiles flag may require changes to /etc/fstab. For example, if fsadm is used to set the largefiles flag, but nolargefiles is specified as a mount option in /etc/fstab, the files system is not mountable.

Re: largefiles support
I did it many times on production ,and even increased/reduced production fs online..never find any problem ....
How big is the file system ? if you free space on any other mountpoint that has largefles enable ,,take a tar backup on to that moutpoint ..

Re: largefiles support
As Nike Says 'Just Do It'.
Below command is fine as long as you've Online JFS, there is no impact ; as I did it on many systems.
fsadm -F vxfs -o largefiles /opt/app/amdocs
Cheers!!

Re: largefiles support
removed before conversion..."
http://docs.hp.com/en/940/lgfiles4.pdf
See above largefiles whitepaper which OK's the conversion fron NO largefiles to YES largefiles using the 'fsadm' command but only on the RAW LVOL and only when the file system is UNmounted and only if there currently are no largefiles.
"...the large files must be removed before conversion..." is clearly stated in the whitepaper.
Note that I could find no publication date on this whitepaper and that it was found in this April 2005 thread:

Solutionswlist -l product |grep -i jfs -> to Check Online JFS Installed
To add the 'largefiles' option, do the following:
fsadm -F vxfs -o largefiles
Then run the 'fsadm' command again to check status:
fsadm -F vxfs
Lastly, edit the /etc/fstab to indicate the changes as follows:
[Original]
/dev/vg03/lvol4 /usr/sap vxfs delaylog 0 3
[Modified]
/dev/vg03/lvol4 /usr/sap vxfs largefiles,delaylog 0 3
The comma after largefiles is very important.
if you have Online JFS Installed , you can do changes ONLINE , no impact
HTH,
Regards,

Re: largefiles support
The decision making process sometimes cracks me up. How an HP publication can be so easily dismissed.
Good luck youngster. You'll need it.
