Laserjet 5000 keeps changing IP Address
Does anyone know what would cause a Laserjet 5000 to change its IP Address by one digit? It has changed 3 times in the past month.

Re: Laserjet 5000 keeps changing IP Address
How is your DHCP configured? The MAC address of the printer should be mapped to one IP address, not a range of addresses.

Re: Laserjet 5000 keeps changing IP Address
You are almost certainly using DHCP. You will be better served using fixed ip addressing via bootp or simply hard-set the IP address of the printer from the front panel or the GUI interface.
Each time this guys boots now, it is querying the DHCP server. Most of the time, the lease is renewed but sometimes you are out of luck and get a new address.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Laserjet 5000 keeps changing IP Address
if you are indeed using DHCP then this could be a problem as stated before , however there are some ways now of getting around this , in DHCP you could put a 'permanent lease' up only for the IP of your printer , that is if you don't want to setup a BOOTP for the printer , personally I would also go for the bootp as you only require one server for bootp/dhcp , it is basically the same packet structure and it is the bootpd deamon on hp-ux that handeles both protocols... further there does exist something like 'dynamic dns' in which you would resolv the same hostname to a changing ip , this way your printer has a name , that name is static , if it changes ip , automatically the ip is changed in the name resolver DNS to link tot he hostname and this is completely transparant for any user
so 3 way to handle this , take your pick
