LaserJet Series II code and address information
I inherited a loargely moth-balled HP9000 Series 300 (HP7959B) system that has a Laserjet Series II (HP 33440A) printer attached. I tried to lp files to the printer w/o any success. It seems that it had been connected but not setup. While going thru the setup procedure in the System Administartor Manual (circa 1988), I was stumped when asked for the device 'code' and 'sub-address'. The Periperal Installation Guide (same era) refers only to the LaserJet 2000 (HP 2684) printer. Of course, the manuals for this printer were long ago discarded. Does anyone have setup information for the Series II printer? The setup askes for the printer code (I think this is 5 based on some switch settings), whether it is ciper or non-ciper, and the sub-address.
My thanks in advance for any assistance.
Bill

Re: LaserJet Series II code and address information
Hi bill,
The 300series covers a large amount of system, and the 7959B is just the hard drive of the system.
It depends upon the model really and how you are connecting the laserjet. I presume by serial(rs232) connection. I cannot remember if there was a HP-IB i/f for that printer or not. If it was HP-IB then that is where you would use the device code or select code as is known. You are right that this had a default of 5 for the HP-IB and was set through switches. If its rs232 then it could be the select code of the rs232 interface in the 300, you will see this at startup as it checks the interfaces.
It also depends upon the op-sys, these could run basic, basic/ux, pascal or hpux.
The manuals for the laserjet II can be found here online, this will help you configure it for the interface if needed.

hope this may be abit of help?

Re: LaserJet Series II code and address information
Bill,
heres where to find the 300series manuals aswell should you need them, happy reading!
http://www.hpmuseum.net/exhibit.php?catdoc=40
If your not sure of which 300series it is, it will tell you at startup again before the select codes are listed.
if in doubt pull the cpu card out and post the part number and i'll see if I can find out
