latest version of sendmail

HI,
hpux 11.00.
What is the latests version of sendmail, 8.12.9? I have been advised to upgrade to this version, but on the hp site i can only find upto version 8.11.1. Anyone have any ideas?

The lastest sendmail form source is 8.12.9 and you can download it at www.sendmail.org

It does not come in a depot file for hpux.
You will have to compile it your self to install it on your sever.

Hi Maria,

HP currently support 8.11.1. At this stage they do not support 8.12.x.

If you have been advised to upgrade to 8.12, is it vital you have support from HP?

Michael & Tim are correct that you most likely need to look at patching sendmail rather than installing 8.12.9.

Here's the link to the latest security bulletin relating to sendmail (June 2003). I haven't read through it but it should give you the patches you're after.

What is the result of the version command once the pathches have been downloaded for existing sendmail version 8.9.3?

Maria,

Greetings.

I have been having conversations with HP with regards to faster testing and adoption of sendmail. This is because 8.12.x has significant enhancements in the area of anti-spam and security.

HP has not given a date, but they have indicated to me that they understand my concerns and will work harder to shorten the release cycle without compromising on quality control and testing.

You can go ahead and compile and run 8.12.9 on your system, but if you have trouble with it, your software support agreement may not cover it.

My advice is to stick with HP approved depots and wait. You can contact HP, open a enhacement or support request as I have done and keep the pressure on them to deliver the goods.
