LDAP & Bastille settings

I have two servers, one outside a firewall, the other inside. On the one outside I am running, HP-UX 11.i, Bastille, TripWire, LDAP (iplanet), Apache, Oracle, and HP Secure Shell. My question is realted to LDAP. Is the only requirement going to be that I have a hole punched in the fire wall for the specific port or is there additional setup required? Can LDAP be configured with ssh?
