LDAP or NIS
Hi There
I want use LDAP-UX for user id's database. I heard that NIS+ is going to be disappeared. Can I dowload LDAP or need to buy ?
Any aproximate idea how much time one require to set it up if have never tried LDAP or NIS or NIS+ before ?
Is there any esitimate how much it could cost us if we want it done by HP etc ?
Thanks
Nisar

Re: LDAP or NIS
Depends on the server side. Here you have usually 3 options - Microsoft Active Directory solution (on win 2k,2k3), open source solutions (like Apache Directory Server or Open LDAP) or commercial solution from Novel,CA,RedHat,IBM,Sun ,Oracle etc. So when it comes to costs include
licenses from the abovementioned in addition to work/consulting hours :) However,HP may have partnership agreements with this or that vendor,so check with your local HP contacts.
It takes time to learn LDAP and tune it. Especially usefull if you have mixed user environments (Microsoft / *NIX i.e) so it
solves you headaches of users management.
