LDAP truncating logname to 8 character

I have a login that is 10 characters long. I can login to the machine (thank you pam_ldap...) but when my shell comes up, my login is truncated to 8 chars. when i try to rlogin to somewhere else from there, it uses the short userid (which doesnt exist)... Sigh... Oh and just for fodder, the Solaris and Linux boxes dont have this trouble....

This is happening only on a hp box ,other same model ,version box are showing full 10 charter name .any solution to get rid of this issue?

Re: LDAP truncating logname to 8 character

Shalom,

The OS by default ignores paswords and user names greater than 8 characters.

At least on 11.23 HP-UX, this tool might help you out.

Re: LDAP truncating logname to 8 character

In my case the logname is OK in other AD intergrated HP box .The difference is there with only one perticular box which is truncating the logname to 8 character.

All user are maintained by winodows AD and unix is getting authenticated Kerberous and LDAP is used for accessing the windows AD.

I want someone to guess what could be the difference in that perticular box though all seems identical like OS ver, LDAP ,Kerborous Versioon etc..

Re: LDAP truncating logname to 8 character

I think relevant questions are :
Is this a new installation ?
Has it ever worked ?
Or is this an aold installation and is this the first time you try to log on ?

How is the system installed ? From an Ignite image taken from one of the other systems ?
Or by a cold install from DVD-media ?

My guess with the little information you giver us : There is a difference in patch level between the working systems and this one. Is there any difference you can see with swlist ?
