Legato Question

Hi,

I am trying to recover from tape from our Production enviroment and recovering to are DR server. There are serveral methods I can use but the one which the customer requires us to open the nwrecover GUI .

Can anyone advise a way of me achieving this with the following:

a. Take tape from production.
b. Place tape into DR servers tape drive.
c. Recover from Production tape to DR system.

In simple terms I want to take my tape from Production and on the DR box recover all the required files from that tape to make my DR box now the production.

Both boxes are identical hardware and software.

Thanks

Re: Legato Question

What do you need to recover? Apparently, the Operating System has already been loaded. How is/was the file system laid out? Do you need to recover application software (i.e. database or other apps) or do you need to recover the data, or both. If data, is the orginal disk mechanism still available or do you have to create a whole new LVM layout and restore the data into it.

There is a lot more information needed before any sort of definitive answer can be given.

Re: Legato Question

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the response. I have a DR server patched and the identical file structure to the Production server and I want the users to point to this instead of the current Prodution server.

1. Host A is the current Production box.
2. Host B is the current DR box.

Now from the full backup of Host A (Production) I want to take the tape and place it into the tape drive of Host B (DR) and recover the contents. This means that the current DR sevrer which has Leagto 6.1 installed does not know anything of the tape which has been inserted and even a inventory can not see the tape label due to this is not registered in the index.

So how do I get the bootstrap info to be read and what are the required steps to recover the tape to Host B.

Hope this explains more as all I want to do is read the tape on the DR server and then recover the tape to this box.

Thanks,
Pat

Re: Legato Question

Hi Pat,

You need to rebuild your media and online index from tape. The fastest way is to use mmrecov command, provided you have the latest SSID (SaveSetID) and filenumber. If you do not have this information use the "scanner -i /dev/mnt/xxx" to recover the index.

Hope this helps,

Re: Legato Question

Pat,

Apparently Robert-Jan is a little more current with Networker than I - I used to work with it years ago, but have forgotten most of it. Perhaps this document might be of some help:
