license on MC/SG

Hi all,

We have MC/SG insalled and configured on a cluster of 2 servers running Oracle package. we are thinking of configuring one more package to give HA to another application(not oracle) on this cluster.

we are wondering if there's any license issue, does the MC/SG license based on server numbers or package numbers, we won't extend servers in this cluster, just want to configure one more package, do we need another license? and roughly how much will it be? (it's hard to find a price quote on HP's web site)

thanks,
Gary

Re: license on MC/SG

The license count is based upon the number of server not the number of packages.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

I guess No... License is for the servers not for the packages within the cluster.

Re: license on MC/SG

Configure as many packages as you want, thus is no license question.

MS/SG Licensing is based on the server number.

The number of possible packages is configured in you cluster config file (MAX_CONFIGURED_PACKAGES )
but you can adjust this according to yout needs.

Re: license on MC/SG

your SG license is based on hte server, not application or package numbers. If you have a 4 node cluster, you need one license per server.

Re: license on MC/SG

Thank you all for the reply, I guess we got more reasons for a "go ahead".

one another question, I saw there's different "tier of use" (tier 1, 2, 3) of the MC/SG license, result in quite different price to purchase. what does that mean?

thanks,
Gary

Re: license on MC/SG

Gary,

The tier is related to the size and power of your system... a small system (like an rp2400) might be tier 1, while larger systems like rp7410 and rp8400 might be tier 2 or even tier 3. Your account manager (or some bright spark here!) should be able to tell you what the tier is of all your HP systems.
