I have a requirement to gather the licensing details of all software and firmware bundles installed in my HP-UX server.
This is required since we are taking over management of the servers and are consolidating information about the servers.
How can I find out the expiry periods on the existing licenses for the various products?
A problem came up when I ran the vxlicrep utility to find out about the Veritas Product Details I got the following output : -
VERITAS License Manager vxlicrep utility version 3.00.007
Copyright (C) VERITAS Software Corp 2002. All Rights reserved.
Creating a report on all VERITAS products installed on this system
-----------------***********************-----------------
License Key = 907749864228766544621479
Product Name = VERITAS File System
Key = Valid
License Type = DEMO
Demo End Date = Sun Jun 24 18:00:00 2007
Site License = YES
Features :=
HP_OnlineJFS = Enabled
Any pointers what this could imply? My thoughts wander off that this might be a problem with other bundles as well.
Waiting anxiously pundits
Cheers,
Sid

SolutionAs far as the expiry date of online JFS or VXVM product ,that u retreived form "vxlicrep" command goes.. Do not panic.. refer to the following link..
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1002463
but for other licenced product in HPUX box is concerned..
see the file..
/var/adm/sw/.codewords
in this file note down.. "Customer_Id" field...
then go to http://licensing.hp.com/welcome.slm
Here key in the customer id in the given box and submit, It will tell you what are the products in your system that are licensed.

Re: licensing details in HP-UX
While following up on your suggestion i found out that there was no .codeword file in the /var/adm folder.
Any implications of the same? any alternate location for that file?
Cheers,
sid

Re: licensing details in HP-UX
It varies product to product. Most of HP's product stores licensing information in /var/adm/sw/.codewords. Other vendors will use their own location.
For this VxVM bug, you need to upgrade to the latest version available from http://software.hp.com

Re: licensing details in HP-UX
Arun has a valid point as far as some other software vendors product.
But as far as HP S/W products are concerned, it stores the codeword in the sai file, i.e., /var/adm/sw/.codewords.
I see that you have searched under /var/adm instead of /var/adm/sw directory.
Anyway if its missing, that means there is no Licensed software from HP that was installed. To double check you can search for products like "mirror ux" for instance. I will provide some other licenced products to check in your machine ,after consulting the licensing site.

Re: licensing details in HP-UX
Arun...
Just wanted to confirm that if I upgrade to the latest version, does this mean that at 2007, after the supposed expiry date, i can still do online extension and shrinking of the filesystems?
and just another queston, what is the bug exactly any idea... i would like to know the implications of this in case it requires a reboot or not? what are the possible implications of not upgrading...
thanks and cheers,
sid
