Limiting where telnet users can go.

How do you limit where a telnet user can go. I'd like to limit the user to just one file system and deny access to the rest of the file systems on the server. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Limiting where telnet users can go.

Hi,

The best way would most likely be to set the user up with a 'rsh' shell. You could also most make the use of 'chroot' as well.

# man chroot

Have a look at this posting:

Re: Limiting where telnet users can go.

Not sure what your trying to give me Harry. If your suggesting that I'm not adding when viewing responses let me know. I'd love to add points and there are some that deserved at least 10 and have even referred these responses to other people. There are however many instances where the option to add points does not appear. For example, the two that are here do not have the option to add points. Any suggestions?

Re: Limiting where telnet users can go.

Hi John,

I think what Harry is subtlely referring to is your points assigning activity level (check your profile at http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/UserProfile/1,,CA674812!1,00.html -- 16 of 59 replies assigned points). Even assigning n/a where appropriate would help your standing.

Your message about having trouble with the assign points button was pointed out to me. I checked and found that everything appears fine. It may be that you simply need to verify that you are logged in. If you are not logged in, you will not see the blue "assign points" button above replies. Instead, you will see the term "unassigned". So, if you login and come back to this thread, the blue buttons should appear. If they don't, hit your refresh button.

And please don't be offended by Harry's points policing -- I think he means well. :)

Re: Limiting where telnet users can go.

No harm at all Dan. Quite the opposite! I appreciate your taking your time to explain the issue. Yup, no excuse here, if I had just logged in I would have seen the difference. User error and no more. Points awarded accordingly and thanks again Harry for taking your time to put me in the know (and I mean that). I should have put that together myself when the "assing points" button only appeared some of the time.

Thanks again!
