locale settings/LC vars

Just a couple of questions about locale settings and LC environmental variables:

where I can find a good document describing this settings, which give few examples how to setup?

where are located the system default settings?

* I've "man environ" etc, followed the few tips. However all my attempts failed to setup an environment that allows the recognizion of "£" (pound) and "€" (euro) symbols.

If someone has good tips about how to setup this, please I'll be happy to hear them. Many thans

look in /usr/share/doc on your machine for files starting as euro*
