Locating a serial port
Please find IOSCAN output:
ioa 0 4/0 sba CLAIMED BUS_NEXUS System Bus Adapter (804)
ba 1 4/0/0 lba CLAIMED BUS_NEXUS Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
tty 0 4/0/0/0/0 asio0 CLAIMED INTERFACE PCI Serial (103c1048)
/dev/GSPdiag1 /dev/cul0p1 /dev/mux0 /dev/tty0p1 /dev/ttyd0p1
/dev/cua0p1 /dev/diag/mux0 /dev/tty0p0 /dev/tty0p2
lan 0 4/0/0/1/0 btlan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP PCI 10/100Base-TX Core
/dev/diag/lan0 /dev/ether0 /dev/lan0
I have configured modem through SAM.
But when physically I check on the core IO card, there is only network port no serial port.
Is it possible? Or is there a different way to locate the serial port.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Locating a serial port
you probably do have a serial port on the core io just havent identified it correctly.
It depends upon the model server, but if its a a/l/n class type server or newer RP series then you have 25pin console port on the core I/O board. This should have a M or W type cable attached to it. This is a 25pin to 3x 9pin cables. These are used for local console/remote console and UPS.

Is there a possibility that port actually exist on card but to access it we need to have some adapter?

Re: Locating a serial port
OK, I see what you mean...
The standard serial ports on a Superdome are not on the core IO card, but just below the cell board compartment. See this picture:
http://docs.hp.com/en/A5201-10028/img/gfx43.gif
You have to crouch down and look upwards to see them. There is some text on the edge of the cell board compartment to point out the ports, they are hidden rather well.
I'm not sure you can use those ports for a modem, unless it is for remote console access... at worst, you might have to buy a serial MUX card.

Re: Locating a serial port
But I am looking for configuring serial port for a perticular partition. Thats why looking for a serial port on IO Chassis.
ioscan, cstm, parmgr are pointing that there is a serial port on 4/0/0/0/0
But I am not able to locate it physically on core IO Card.

Re: Locating a serial port
Act we are also using superdome sd32000 in site.here we have installed the modem not in the core io card.because the core i/o which we are using have same condition (not serial port).we have installed the modem on the RS232 remote(backside of superdome there is sticker mentioned).so i think you also have to installed your modem to this port...
thanks
