On hp-UX 11.00, my login is up to 8 letters.
When the session lock, I can't unlock with my password and I have to take the root password.
I have installed the patches :
PHSS_22339 : s700_800 11.00 CDE Runtime Periodic Patch.
PHCO_26089 : s700_800 11.00 libpam and libpam_unix cumulative patch
I verified, my system is not trusted.
The login name of the user is greater than 8 characters, it looks like "utilisateurMN".
It's ID is 911 and it is not the same as root.
The password is not expired and I try to change it and the problem continue.
Thanks

Re: lock screen problems
On a non-trusted system, try this as any user
passwd username
change the password, make it 10 characters.
then login as that user.
type the first 8 characters and/or type the whole thing.
On 11.00 systems, it makes no difference. Thats from actual testing, and you may be able to force the system to not ignore it, but thats the default behavior.
Are you current on security patches?
Are you current with Quality Packs or whatever they call them this month(Quarterly patch bundles)?
Any tiny little patch can cause this behavior, but I'd bet support's seen this behavior and could give you a more specific answer.
itrc is great, but its no substitute for a software support contract.

Solution
Hi,
If you are saying that your userid [login name?] is greater than 8 characters, you could be in for all kinds of fun trouble. Here is a recent thread discussing the problems you can have and why you should limit userids to 8 characters or less:
