login delay on NIS Master

Hello experts,
we installed a new server (L100) with HP/UX 11.0 as NIS(V1) Master and client to itself.
everything was working fine.
When going productive, we changed the NIS Domainname on this Server to the productive Domainname: "pklcad."
Since then we have a login delay of ~10 seconds after entering the password when logging in as non-root user on the server and the clients in this NIS Domain (telnet same as rlogin).
After the delay appear the following messages on the machine logging on to:
08.06 14:40:24 CAD_S5 pid=6236 /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypbind
NIS: server not responding for domain "pklcad"; still trying
08.06 14:40:29 CAD_S5 pid=6237 /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypbind
NIS: server not responding for domain "pklcad"; still trying

Has anybody an idea whats going wrong?

regards

Can you post resolv.conf and nsswitch.conf?

What patch level is your 11.0 box at?

Re: login delay on NIS Master

There is no resolv.conf, we use etc/hosts instead of DNS.
The nsswitch.conf contains only this line:
hosts: files nis

The patchlevel is:
B.11.00.54.7
(quality pack from september 2001)

Re: login delay on NIS Master

hi,

what will be the output of this command:
# domainname
Check the namesvrs file too, check what happens if you add the ypset option ? In the file add:
YPBIND_OPTIONS="-ypset"

learn unix ..

Re: login delay on NIS Master

domainname returns the right name: "pklcad."

Thwe namesvrs file contains the option:
YPBIND_OPTIONS=""

I can try things on this machine only at the weekend cause 100 Users would be affected if it fails

Re: login delay on NIS Master

Inbetween i have set
YPBIND_OPTIONS="-ypset"
and
YPSET_ADDR="194.69.39.71"
(the NIS Masters IP#)
on a NIS-client.
The behavior is still the same.

From where takes ypbind the NIS domainname?
The error message shows that the domain "pklcad" cannot be reached.
In namesvrs is
NIS_DOMAIN="pklcad."
defined.

Re: login delay on NIS Master

Inbetween i've setup a testenvironment with NIS Server.
The result: ypbind does not like domainnames ending with a ".".
It first tries 2 times to bind to the domainname without the last character (.), then it binds to the defined domain with ".".
This happens only on clients running hpux11.00.
Has anybody an idea how to avoid the work changing at about 100 clients?
