I am working in HP-UX 10.20. Recently I installed CDE on it. Before that I had
HP-VUE. Still i am using the same. I can login through command line,HP vue.but not through CDE. But I am getting the CDE Window. It just kicking out with error message of incorrect login.I have checked for the package in swagent.log and installation went through propertly. I checked appropriate patches also. I checked Run contol scripts & NIS Setup. Everything is fine. Let me know what may be the problem.
Appreciated.

Solution
Hi,
This could be several things
1. swagent.log = ok but:
swlist -l fileset -a state | grep inst
shows unconfigured packages.
2. Is your hostname resolving set up properly.
Hope this will get you started and motivate some other peoply to reply, since the forum is online again.

Re: login incorrect
Navin,
If you were using VUE and now want to use CDE, you would need to reboot (or change the init run level ) the system. runlevel 3 is for cde and runlevel 4 is vue.
Pls refer to the following two docs:
http://us-support2.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=2203e1df0269870200/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=200000052138421
http://us-support.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=1fa06be916ae19eb4e/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=200000045437183
Also, iirr there is a desktop file in rc.config.d where you can change the entry
from CDE to vue and viceversa. Its been a long time since i used 10.20, so don't remember it exactly.

Re: login incorrect
Attached is "CDE Login Troubleshooting Guide". It may help a little ..
