Login Prob 11i

Hi,
there is 11i box ..I am able to login Via Console but on telnet to the server It gives me error.. connect failed.
On looking in to console I found the Telnetd is not running. so I started with "inetd -s" command. then for 1 min I was able to telnet to the server and then It got disconnected.. and the telnet daemon is not running.

Also I get this error message when I login thru consle this is immediate message on login it self
"Please wait...checking for disk quotas
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Call to mmap() failed - ZEROES /usr/lib/libnsl.1
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Not enough space "

On seeing swap space it is 100% utilized with
"swapinfo -t" command.

The server has been restarted ..still with out any applications running.. Still the above symptoms are noticed and Users are not able to login in Via Telnet. Please help.

Thanks
Senthil

Re: Login Prob 11i

A couple of questions,

Are you logging in as root?? Did you try logging in as some other user?

Did you enable quota on your machine? From console login and run "quota -v" to see the report if you are exceeding the quota.

And as far as the telnet daemon is concerened it is invoked by inetd and gets terminated as soon as the telnet session closes out.

Re: Login Prob 11i

Yes,the problem is a no free memory on the machine.

Just do a

#UNIX95= ps -e -o ruser,pid,vsz=Kbytes|more

and check which process is using the memory on the machine.

By the way what is the memory on the server .How much swap space you have.

What is the output of swapinfo -ta

Re: Login Prob 11i

you can also use top.

there are some snmp agents mib2agt which use more memory on the machine

Anyhow revert with your config

Re: Login Prob 11i

That is classic "out of swap" type of error messages as others have noted.

The #Unix95 command above is a good way to check this.

The output you list probably isn't showing us everything since you're swapinfo no longer shows 100%.

I would re-run that command as you start to see the messages on logins .

The usual troubleshooting questions apply as well, especially:

What has changed lately ?

New patches ?
Application upgrades ?
Change to user scripts ?

Best regards,

Re: Login Prob 11i

Hi,

Now the Swap is only 4% , but still I am not able to login via telnet..
I am able to login via consle and telnet locally.

not from any other machine in the same network. It says
Trying...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

Re: Login Prob 11i

Thanks All..

It worked fine..

the Swap size was made okay by tuning kernel params..and the Telnet prob... was to My DHCP which has issued the Same IP to 2 machines.

Now every thing is working fine..

Thanks A Lot
