long filename support?
Since I don't think there is long filename support, how can I share a Windows drive/folder to my unix machines? I have Samba 2.2.8 on my unix machines and I can see the shares on my Windows machine but not vice-versa.

Re: long filename support?
Hi,
Use Updated Samba software,Now a days Samba 3.0.6 is Available for download. Install it, it will solve your's problem.
The code has grown by about a factor of 100 since that first release in 1992, which in some ways is a pity as its now rather too large to read in one sitting,Samba 3.0 will support Active Directory and has many structural improvements.
Regards,
Asif Sharif

Re: long filename support?
Hello Edgar,
When you say you can see the shares on your Windows machine but not vice-versa, do you mean that you want the HP-UX system to be able to mount and see the file systems residing on your Windows servers?
If that is the case, HP offers a product called the HP CIFS Client, which allows HP-UX systems to mount filesystems from Windows systems using the SMB protocol used by Windows.
You can download the HP CIFS Client software free of charge from:
http://www.software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B8724AA
It runs on HP-UX 11.0, 11i v1 and 11i v2.
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "no support for long filenames?" Are you referring to the HP-UX systems?
The last time I checked, I thought HP-UX supports file names up to 255 characters in length and the names are case-sensitive. From the limits(5) man page, it seems a full path name is limited to 1023 characters (PATH_MAX), but I believe individual pathname components, like file names, can be as much as 255 characters. If 255 characers is not long enough for your needs, what length of file names do you require?
Regards,
Dave
