What is the use of loast+found ?

It is a directory that gets created at the same time as when a filesystem is created and mounted. It is used for lost and corrupted files generated by the 'fsck' command.

One further thought on this. The lost+found directory places files that have lost their reference from the running of 'fsck'. It is intended that the files are to be examined prior to removal. If of course the files are old, then yes go ahead and remove them. Just as a small precaution, you may wish to backup the contents before doing so.
