lpalt: unable to set the effective user id to "9"

I have a user that is getting this error.

I have check previous threads and made sure my lp commands in /usr/bin look as follows:

-r-sr-xr-x 1 lp bin 49152 Jan 11 2005 lpstat
-r-sr-xr-x 1 root bin 40960 Jan 11 2005 lp
-r-sr-xr-x 1 lp bin 40960 Jan 11 2005 lpalt
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 614 Nov 14 2000 lpr

Any other ideas?

-TIA.

Re: lpalt: unable to set the effective user id to "9"

The owner of lpalt should be root rather than lp --- and make sure that the setuid bit is set after you chown root lpalt.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi Jody:

Change 'lpalt' ownership to root.

Re: lpalt: unable to set the effective user id to "9"

I changed the lpalt permissions to root vice lp as adviced above and it worked great.
