lpsched disables printers
We have recently migrated a customer from a D390 HPUX 11.00 to an rx2620 11.23 server and the customer has found that when his printers run out of paper they are disabled, and lpstat reports that it cannot see the port on the print server (print servers are intel netport's and the printers are HP Laserjet 1320's). To correct the problem they disable/enable the printer and jobs go through. (though sometimes they have to power off the print servers, then disable/enable.)
I think that if the printer is unable to print then lpsched would indeed disable the printer, but shouldn't they just be able to fill the printer with paper and press the Go/start/online button rather than having to enable the printer again? Is this correct as the customer did not have this issue on their old system?
Many Thanks!

Re: lpsched disables printers
Printers shouldn't get disabled when they run out of paper...mine don't - though most of my 550+ printers are Jet Direct.
What you may be facing here is an issue with the Intel Netport...
I would place a support call with them...

Re: lpsched disables printers
It was a problem with the netport - which isn't supported no longer. I have changed printer server to HP jetdirect and all works ok now.
