lpsched will not start
No response when started. Emptied the queues - reloaded the printer definitions from a backup and the print spooler is still STOPPED.
Found a job that did not recover in the log and had the printer shut down -- still cannot start.
Please Help! Thank you!

Re: lpsched will not start
Try removing FIFO and SCHEDLOCK in /var/spool/lp. Then restart the spooler.

Re: lpsched will not start
Check /var/spool/lp directory & if there's a file named SCHEDLOCK - remove it.
Then try the lpsched command again.

Thank you for responding. No file on the system with that name.

Re: lpsched will not start
How about /var/adm/lp/log or oldlog?
Also run
ps -ef | grep lp
And make sure that there is NO lpsched running before you try to restart. If so kill it.
What does lpstat -t return?
Does IT show scheduler is running?
Sometimes SAM goes brain-dead.
This can usually be fixed with SAM cumulative patch.

Jeff

Re: lpsched will not start
Well, it's interesting that an lpstat -t shows up in that ps output. It appears to be hung. lpstat is usually a quick command & would be hard to catch in a ps command.
So I'd recommend you kill that lpstat command (PID 2806).
Then all those banjob jobs are calling the lp command as well.
Check to see if they can be terminated w/o problems & if so kill them as well. All those lp commands are probably what are causing the problem.
Once those are all cleaned up, you may be able to successfully restart the spooler again.

Jeff

Re: lpsched will not start
The solution was in the log in /var/adm/lp 18 REGnn Printer files were missing. It showed in the log when lpsched was executed.
Thank you for your help. Got to the right street but didn't quite find the right house. (too many white houses)

Re: lpsched will not start
Cool - glad you solved it.
You know my Dad once told me
"Son, it doesn't matter what route you take as long as you arrive safely."
So I often find myself enjoying the journey more than the destination.
Cheers,
Jeff
