lv commands

Hi all. Would like to know is it a must to be in single user mode when executing lv commands like lvreduce, lvremove, lvextend .... etc?

Thanks!

Re: lv commands

Hi,

You are NOT required to be in single-user mode to run LVM commands such as lvcreate, lvextend and lvreduce, lvsplit or lvmerge etc.

However, to perform tasks such as extending (ie. extendfs) a HFS filesystem on an lvextend'ed LV, you need to un-mount the filesystem before running extendfs. If the HFS filesystem is a root filesystem such as /opt or /usr, then you will need to shutdown to single-user mode to perform the extendfs.

Hope this helps. Regards.

Re: lv commands

Hi,

Here is a link to "An Introduction to the Logical Volume Manager" which could prove useful.
