LV size differ from one server to another

Hey,
We have 2 servers: "maof" and "troya".
maof is the production server and troya is the backup server.
We have a VG called "vgdb" on the maof server (see appendix 1)
We have replicated the disks of that VG to another disks using EMC Clone.
The problem is that, we added another LV to the production VG, but when replicating it to the other disks
we see that the last LV (lvol54) size is 0 (see appendix 2).

We have tried to export & vgscan & import that vg on the troya server.

I've also added the output of EMC's script to pull the VGID,PVID,size and VOLID from the Disks.
Everything is the same, but still, the LV is size 0.

1 ) Please don't put something this long on the question....attach large output as a file.

OK....if all the disks are there on both nodes, you need to create fresh mapfile and run vgexport/vgimport:

On Prod node (w/new lvol)
vgexport -pvs -m /etc/lvmconf/vgname.mapxxx /dev/vgname

Copy that mapfile to the second node and run:

vgexport /dev/vgname
mkdir /dev/vgname
mknod /dev/vgname/group c 64 0x--0000
vgimport -vs -m /etc/lvmconf/vgname/mapxxx /dev/vgname

Remember on the second node you first have to get rid of the mapfile; recreate the minor device file; and then vgimport.

Hey Rita,
I wanted to edit my post, because of its size, but there is not Edit option :\

Anyway, I have exported the VG and re-imported it. it doesn't help.

According to some HP support guy, he says that the LV_entry are correct on Troya, but the PV maps are incorrect.
Is there anyway to update the PV maps on the second host ?

Shalom Pelephone Admin,

You might want to alter your export process a bit and then you can get a map file that will assist on the import.

Here is a good example that should get things to work.

# vgexport -p -v -s -m /tmp/vgXY.mapfile

...on 11.x:

# mkdir /dev/vgXY
# mknod /dev/vgXY/group c 64 0xXY0000
# vgimport -s -m /tmp/vgXY.mapfile vgXY
# vgchange -a y vgXY
# vgcfgbackup vgXY

I'd like to see (attached) logs of the export and import process and logs. Maybe put a set -x in the script too.

Note, I live in Israel and would be happy to talk to you about this.

This should work for you. I would like to see the exact commands you used to do the export or you to try the above, which I pulled from a James R Ferguson post and have done on my two HP-UX systems in my home.

When you will check the logs you will see that the advice is the regular method we are doing exports & imports ... :)

Your log looks absolutely clean.

No problems at all.

So now its time for a fishing expedition.

Check that the version of vxfs is the same on both systems.

Check that the systems are patched in a compatible way. Ideally they should both be on the same QPK or Gold Pack.

Give me everything you can, perhaps as an attachment. OS version, swlist output, the more the better.
