lv stripping question

lv stripping question

Hello - I have a situation where I had created a vg with 4 disks and stripped a lv across those disks. I have since added a fifth disk and would like to strip across that disk as well - is there a way to update the stripping to include this disk?

Re: lv stripping question

Nope, not that I know of.

The only way I know to do this is to back up the data, re-create the LV with striping across the 5 disks, and then restore the data.

Re: lv stripping question

You'd have one of two choices:

1. Create a new lvol with 5 stripes and move data to that new lvol.

2. Add not 1 but 4 more disks to the vg.

See Knowledge Base Doc #Document id: UNX1010151
for more info.

Re: lv stripping question

Hi,

I think it is not possible. You will have to recreate the LV for that.

Re: lv stripping question

Veritas VxVM will the job wonderfully, you can change the layout on the fly, with any to any disks. otherwise all the other answers are you choise.
