Re: lvcreate -r "relocate" option
I've read posts in here that the XP looks after bad block relocation similar to EMC. Unfortunately I've not see any documentary evidence to support this. I am quite aware of this facility with EMC.

Re: lvcreate -r "relocate" option
I just took a look at the manual for the XP512 and in there they create a logical volume without specifying the "-r" option. Also (as my teacher here at HP education tells me) it seems to be the case that bad block relocation on a software level (LVM) is only used IF the array does not take action itself ...
Hope this helps,
Tom

SolutionThis is true for almost any modern Hardware Disk Array. Most disk arrays handle bad block relocation on there own, so if the array relocates the block and LVM relocates the block, where's the block? Could create some issues.
The bad block relocation feature is really meant for JBOD's

Re: lvcreate -r "relocate" option
I too have worked with EMC Symmetrix and we had also kept this option to none since EMC recommended the same. The latest hardwares are designed in such a way that they can handle the bad block relocation by itself.
