lvdisplay and bdf discrepancies

All, I have a logical volume at 250GB in size but bdf shows the filesystem at 263GB. In attempts to shrink the filesystem down to 250GB/same size as lv, it fails with error 16 which is busy. Is is possable to stop the application/oracle and then try it again or is all lost if it becomes unmounted? At this time the data is good and everything seems to be working. A defrag has run successfully on extents and dir's.

Re: lvdisplay and bdf discrepancies

You can't reduce a volume while its mounted without Online JFS.

I believe the discrpency is a calculation error on the bdf or lvdislay programs. Do an ITRC search on patches for both and see if any of them match up.

When you laid down the filesystem you used extendfs or newfs.

These will fill up the entire logical volume.

There is nothing to reduce in my opinion.

Post the lvdisplay output. If there are no free blocks, I'm right.

Sorry, forgot a small detail - A lvreduce was done to shrink it 250GB. Is this reversable?

Re: lvdisplay and bdf discrepancies

Let me get this straight - did you do a lvreduce on the lvol before you did a fsadm -b on the filesystem?

If yes, just lvextend the lvol again....
