I'm getting these warning messages. These devices do however come up and are available after boot. I'm abit concerned about these message. Any advise?

Hi Steve,
I think your vg00 has corrupted.May be some of this reside on this volume have faulted.Your vg00 is configured mirroring?
Please show the output of lvlnboot -v and
strings /etc/lvmtab.

Yes, there seems to be some problem with ur vg00. Is root mirrored? If so check the lvdisplay -v and check the mirror disk status also. Can u post lvlnboot -v and vgdisplay -v of vg00

That's the weird part. Those device files listed in the warning message aren't part of vg00. Mirror copies appear to be fine also. I've included the requested info below. Please forgive me for not being more specific about the situation. I appreciate any advise.

It is strange thing that your vg00 information not resides on this lvmtab and why does your vg00 replaced by vg04 after you reboot your system?What do you do before this happens?Please posts information that come from the followed commands:

The following warning only applies to dual controller devices (NIKE), or disks with alternate path:

Since vgscan search each disks on the system in the order of where they have configured. When vgscan reconstruct /etc/lvmtab file, the order of disks in the file could be different than it was before. The following will happen:

*

The designated primary and alternate link might not be the same as it was configured before.
*

Alternate links will be added to the /etc/lvmtab file even if they might not be configured in the volume group initially.
*

The boot information might be incorrect due to different order of disks in the new /etc/lvmtab file.

In order to correct the above problems, do the following:

*

Use vgchange with -a option to activate all volume groups.
*

Use lvlnboot with -R option to correct boot information on disk.
*

Use vgreduce to reduce any alternate links that were added to the /etc/lvmtab file by vgscan, but they were not needed.
*

If the original primary path of a disks become an alternate path after /etc/lvmtab file is reconstructed, the order can be easily reverted by using vgreduce to remove the primary path and use vgextend to add the path back again.

If /etc/lvmtab is destroyed, do not use vgscan to re-construct /etc/lvmtab if the system is heavily loaded by an application. Otherwise, vgscan will create an incomplete /etc/lvmtab due to a known NIKE/LVM limitation issue. It's important to quiesce the logical volume's I/O before re-constructing the /etc/lvmtab.

If for some reason, there is a need to re-construct /etc/lvmtab when the system is running production application, vgscan will create a partial /etc/lvmtab. In this case, most of the primary paths should be included in the /etc/lvmtab. Use vgextend to include any missing alternate paths in the VG.

Hi Steve,

It looks like there is problem with the /etc/lvmtab file. Warning you are getting is for all PVs pelongs to vg04, and vg04 is the first VG in /etc/lvmtab.
Try this:Make a copy of lvmtab and do vgscan to create new lvmtab which will have vg00 in the begining...
(can you recollect when exactly this problem started, probably that will give you some clue)

Can you post the output of bdf from your system? It seems your vg04 is not in use or is not getting activated. Allthough nothing seems wrong with lvmtab file.

Can you also post output of "vgdisplay -v /dev/vg04" ?

Move /etc/lvmtab out of /etc (eg to /tmp).

Create afterwards a new lvmtab with the correct information by running the command 'vgscan -av'.

I agree with the response above. Please try rescanning the VG and recreating lvmtab file using vgscan command. Move current /etc/lvmtab to some other name before this.

Hello Khoo,

Don't worry much about these warnings.

** Your current /dev/vg00 entries in /etc/lvmtab is not the first entry**

The messages you are getting becuase, lvlnboot -c command was run during the boot as part of /sbin/ioinitrc script.
/etc/inittab
ioin::sysinit:/sbin/ioinitrc >/dev/console 2>&1

lvlnboot -c, it searching entire /etc/lvmtab till it finds the root disk(/dev/vg00 entry in lvmtab)

During that time none of the volumes are activated other than vg00(i.e its pre early boot stage), due to that you are getting
"lvlnboot: Warning: couldn't query physical volume "/dev/dsk/c0t2d0": The specified path does not correspond to physical volume attached to this volume group"

Why you may not getting these messages on every systems is becuase your /dev/vg00 entry in the /etc/lvmtab was not first one.

I hope you might got this messages for all the disks in the /etc/lvmtab above /dev/vg00 entries.

But the same messages are not coming once system is booted, when you run
#lvlnboot -v , becuase all the volumes groups are active at that time.

You can easily reproduce this problem when system is up by running the following commands
#umount
#vgchange -a n vg04
#lvlnboot -c ** this will give warnings for only vg04 disks

I Would suggest just ignore these message, because it won't cause any harm and moreever
these messsages only come during boot on console only

Incase if you don't want to see these messages at all during boot time, do the following
** unmount all the filesystms belongs to vg04, vg05, vg06, vg07, vg01
** deactivate the volume groups
#vgchange -a n
#vgexport -p -v -m /tmp/.map -f /tmp/.conf /dev/

** Note down the minor numbers of the volume groups
#ll /dev//group
** export the volume group
#vgexport /dev/
** create minor number and import the volume group
#mkdir /dev/
#mknod /dev//group c 64 0x0000
#vgimport -v -m /tmp/.map -f /tmp/.conf /dev/

Once your /dev/vg00 entry in the /etc/lvmtab is first one, lvlnboot -c won't complain about other volume group disks.

Your explanation makes sense to me. I was able to reproduce the warning messages after boot per your instructions. I will ignore these for now. When I have some time I might follow your suggestion of exporting vgs and etc... to avoid these warning messages.
