LVM HPUX 10.20 and 11.11 compatibilty
do you know if there is compatibility between lvm structure from HPUX 10.20 and 11.11?
I snapped a with vxfs filesystem on a hpux server and now i'm tringo to import vg structure on the snapshot on a hpux 11.11 server but it seem's there isn't any lvm structure seen by hpux 11.11 server.
Do you have any idea?
thank you

Re: LVM HPUX 10.20 and 11.11 compatibilty
Which version of VxFS you run on 10.20 ? and in 11.11 ? Did you get any errors when trying to import in 11.11 ?

Re: LVM HPUX 10.20 and 11.11 compatibilty
You should be able to vgexport on a 10.20 system and import on an 11.11 system.
There were two major enhancements to LVM in the intervening OS releases however I don't recall anything that said there was not backward compatability.
I'd expect you be unable to import a volume group exported on 11.11 on a 10.20 system.
I'm with the previous poster. There should be an error message somewhere to help sort this out.

Re: LVM HPUX 10.20 and 11.11 compatibilty
# fstyp -v /dev/my_vg/my_lv
vxfs
version: 3
This is the same on my 11.11:
# fstyp -v /dev/no_matter_vg/no_matter_lv
vxfs
version: 4

You can import DGs in 11.11 those are created in 10.20. I dont think you will have any data loss or what so ever.

Re: LVM HPUX 10.20 and 11.11 compatibilty
When you work with powerpath you have always to be carefull!
Powerpath didn't see correctly my snapshot so it needed to be reconfigured.
In effect I looked at only ioscan output and it seemed all thigs went well but between ioscan and kernwl there is even silently powerpath!
Now I'v correctly imported VG (with obvious warning about different CPU ID)
Thank You again
