lvol is showing 80% full

I have a lvol which is showing 80% full but only has two files in there. The lvol is part of an Oracle Database. Does Oracle hold onto disk space or is there anyway to refresh the lvol to see the actual usage of the lvol ?

Re: lvol is showing 80% full

Hi Mark:

The likely explanation is that a file was removed but there is still a process that has the file open. Until all processes referencing the file terminate, the disk space will not be released. This is normal behavior.

Do a fuser -cu on the file system.

As far as the two files - I'm assuming that their total space doesn't add up to the 80%? Oracle db file can be large.

Re: James' posting:
I agree with what he's saying. To see what the process could be that's still holding the files:

fuser -u /dev/vgxx/lvolxx

Hi,

I would issue a fuser -u on this.the Command fsuser -cu "filesystem" will give you a process list.
