Re: / lvol lvextend...

You can't and it wouldn't help anyway. / and /stand must be contigiously allocated logical volumes. There is no easy way to expand /. Your best option is to a do a make_tape_recory and Ignite a new system. You can size the LVOL's during the Ignite restore.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: / lvol lvextend...

Hi,

shutdown -h now is the only fast option ... :-)
I am afraid this is not possible online.
What you can do is boot from recovery cdrom and mount /.

Could you tell us why you want to umount / ?

Re: / lvol lvextend...

If you want to play with / file system, using make_recovery is the only option. Any specific reason to do this??

Re: / lvol lvextend...

In noraml senario there is no need for bigger / filesystem. You may look for unwanted and bigger files to clean under / instead of extending it.

Re: / lvol lvextend...

The way to do this would be to use Ignite. Do a make_tape_recovery, boot the tape and resize your lvols. Ignite is available here:

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/index.html

1.type make_tape_recovery -A
2. then reboot
3. stop the boot
4. type sea
5 choose the tape as boot device
6. no interact with IPL
7. after some minut interrupt the batch mode installation
8. now you can change the / size

Hope this helps

Re: / lvol lvextend...

This has come up many times and the question usually asked is, why do you want to increase the size of /? In the link Sanjiv posted note Bill Hassell's comment that / should not grow. You need to understand why / is full. What is there that should not be there?
Search the forum for threads on increasing /. The consensus is almost always, don't.
If for some reason you still want to, the Ignite method is the way to do it.

Re: / lvol lvextend...

The tape method is the only tried and true procedure.

Create the tape
boot the system and interrupt
boot off the tape address using SEA
Make changes to the sizing of lvol1 (/stand)
continue, the tape recovery. This is will relay out your system.
