Hi freaks,
I want to reduce a logical Volume and extend with the freed space from the first.
It is HP-UX 10.20 and OnlineJFS.
Now I want to know if I can prevent the loss of data, if I use fsadm -D before reducing. Is it right, that fsadm cleans the last diskspace, so that I can reduce this area without loosing data?
Thanks 4 all Help
Best regards
Daniel

Solution
Hi,
'fsadm -d -s ...' followed by 'fsdam -e -s ...' would re-organize directories and reduce fragmentation.
'lvreduce' can then be run "safely"
Keep in mind that the lvreduce command on a logical volume containing a file system of greater length than the size being reduced to will cause data corruption.

Re: lvreduce
Daniel:
With online JFS you can increase or decrease the size of a logical volume without data loss. You may have to defragment first before attempting a reduction. See the man pages for 'fsadm'.
