Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

Hi,

You can use lanscan our lanadmin.
With lanadmin you must know which ppa the card is.

Hi Claudio,

Here is a usefull link.
http://docs.hp.com/en/J4240-90031/J4240-90031.pdf.
And if i'm correct you can use lanscan -v to see which mac-adress is used by APA.

Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

Hi Martin,

Sample lanscan Command Output with HP APA Installed
# lanscan
Hardware Station Crd Hdw Net-Interface NM MAC HP-DLPI DLPI
Path Address In# State NamePPA ID Type Support Mjr#
10/4/8.1 0x080009B7C158 6 UP lan6 snap6 1 ETHER Yes 119
8/0/1/0 0x0060B0220001 0 UP lan0 snap0 2 ETHER Yes 119
8/0/2/0 0x0060B0220002 1 UP lan1 snap1 3 ETHER Yes 119
10/12/6 0x080009F0165D 7 UP lan7 snap7 8 ETHER Yes 119
LinkAgg0 0x0060B04BAB84 900 UP lan900 snap900 10 ETHER Yes 119
LinkAgg1 0x000000000000 901 DOWN lan901 snap901 11 ETHER Yes 119
LinkAgg2 0x000000000000 902 DOWN lan902 snap902 12 ETHER Yes 119
LinkAgg3 0x000000000000 903 DOWN lan903 snap903 13 ETHER Yes 119
LinkAgg4 0x000000000000 904 DOWN lan904 snap904 14 ETHER Yes 119

In this example, the link
aggregate lan900 is formed of ports lan2, lan3, lan4, and lan5. The output suppresses the information on lan2,
lan3, lan4, and lan5 because these ports cannot be used by themselves any longer. You can only see lan900.

lanscan output with the verbose option. This displays some information specific to the port
aggregate. Only a section of lanscan output is shown.

# lanscan â v
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hardware Station Crd Hdw Net-Interface NM MAC HP-DLPI DLPI
Path Address In# State NamePPA ID Type Support Mjr#
Link Agg 0x0060B04BAB84 900 UP lan900 snap900 10 ETHER Yes 119
Extended Station LLC Encapsulation
Address Methods
0x0060B04BAB84 IEEE HPEXTIEEE SNAP ETHER NOVELL
Driver Specific Information
hp_apa
...........................................................................
Hardware Crd Hdw Net-Interface NM MAC HP-DLPI DLPI Driver
Path In# State NamePPA ID Type Support Mjr# Name
8/8/1/0 4 UP lan4 snap4 7 ETHER Yes 119 btlan4
8/4/1/0 2 UP lan2 snap2 6 ETHER Yes 119 btlan4
8/8/2/0 5 UP lan5 snap5 5 ETHER Yes 119 btlan4
8/4/2/0 3 UP lan3 snap3 4 ETHER Yes 119 btlan4

In this example, lanscan prints out information for lan900.
The information includes the list of ports belonging to the link aggregate (lan2, lan3, lan4, and lan5).

Hope this helps.

Amit

Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

Hi,
i think i am not explaining coreectly. I know how to see the MAC of the Link Aggregation, but i dont know how to see the mac adresses of the interfaces that build this APA interface.

Thanks in advance.

Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

Hi,
i am afraid i am not explaining myself. I need know the mac adresses of the interfaces that belong to a LinkAggr. Not the mac of the APA interface.

Thanks in advance.

Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

you can try following command

#lanadmin
Enter command: specific
Enter command: linkagg

You can see the following output
"Link Aggregation specific test mode. Valid LAN Interface PPAs: 2 1 3"

Enter command: port
Enter Port PPA number: 1

you can use above for 2,1&3

Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

Hi Claudi,
I got your question and this is my guess below. Atleast this is what i observed.

Once you aggregate the NICs say lan3 and lan4 for say LinkAggr0, then both lan3 and lan4 will display same MAC address which is visible in "lanscan -v" output.
"lanscan -v" for sure can tell you what all physical interfaces are used for that APA.

Like:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hardware Station Crd Hdw Net-Interface NM MAC HP-DLPI DLPI
Path Address In# State NamePPA ID Type Support Mjr#
LinkAgg0 0x00108318DC23 900 UP lan900 snap900 9 ETHER Yes 119

Extended Station LLC Encapsulation
Address Methods
0x00108318DC23 IEEE HPEXTIEEE SNAP ETHER NOVELL

Driver Specific Information
hp_apa
...............................................................................
Hardware Crd Hdw Net-Interface NM MAC HP-DLPI DLPI Driver
Path In# State NamePPA ID Type Support Mjr# Name
0/6/2/0/6/0 3 UP lan3 snap3 4 ETHER Yes 119 btlan
0/6/2/0/7/0 4 UP lan4 snap4 5 ETHER Yes 119 btlan
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't see any other option.

Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

Hi Chauhan:
if you execute lanadmin -> lan -> ppa and see each of the interfaces that belong to the APA interfaces, you can notice that the MAC is equal and corresponde to the MAC APA interface.

Solution

Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

Hi,

To be honest, I've tried several things during the last hour, and I'm unable to see the real MACs of the NIC on an APA group. However, during one of the tests, in SAM utility, I noticed the following:
Run sam, go to Networking and Communications --> Network Interface Cards.
You will see all the NIC's with the MAC. As you mentioned, the NIC's belonging to an APA group have the same MAC. But if you go to the menu Options --> View SAM Log, and scroll up you will see something like this:

8 0/5/0/0/7/0 00306E2DCE7F 000F2067DD97 119 btlan 802.3 \ â
â â lan8 down 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 0.0.0.0 1500 HP_BTLAN

It seems to show two MACs, the APA one ( 00306E2DCE7F ) and the "real" one ( in this case, 000F2067DD97 ). It's only a guess, since as you, I don't know, or now at least I'm not sure, what are my real MACs ( I guess the way to be sure could be to force a failover ).
Obviously, I'm not sure of this, and even most probably my answer will sound stupid, so probably you want to wait for the answer of an expert.

Hope this helps.

Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

Hi Claudio,

I'm fairly certain that the *first* NIC listed in the /etc/rc.config.d/hpapaconf or hpapaportconf file is used as the aggregate MAC.

Re: MAC addresses of the interfaces that belong an APA interface

Hi again,

OK, here's the command:
/usr/sam/lbin/laninfo
In fact, I think that I already used this one other times ... just remembered.

Zigor
