Machine Serial Numbers from Telnet Session ?

Can I get the serial number of a server running HPUX 10.30 from a line command without calling someone to look at the machine ?
I'm really new

Re: Machine Serial Numbers from Telnet Session ?

Some commands, like stm, on older machines might give you an accurate number, but if the system board was ever swapped out then the number internally is useless. Your best bet is to have a physical inspection.

It depends on your server model. Newer models (the Ls and Ns for example yes). Take a look, it has been discussed before ..

Re: Machine Serial Numbers from Telnet Session ?

NOTE: the STM serial number obtains it's information from the processor ROMs and only the very latest (less than 2 years old) machines report the actual serial number as found on the sticker on the machine. Anything older than that, there is no way to obtain the serial number electronically.

There is a licensing serial number found with uname -i which is partially derived from the serial number plus CPU model but there is no method to decode even a portion of the serial number from uname -i.
