Machine will not boot

It is an L-2000 PA Risc machine that runs 11.0.

On the console, it cannot get further than

I/O INIT 8701

When I hit enter, I get:

**************************
Invalid choice. Q/q: quit EARLY BOOT VFP
**************************

I was installing a version of 11.11 (must have it due to legacy software) and it got stuck on "* Loading configuration utility..." after an hour of this loading I realize it wasn't going to load it.

Sounds like a H/W problem?

Re: Machine will not boot

Possibly - did you check/update the firmware prior to 11.11 install?

Re: Machine will not boot

No, I did not check the firmware.

I escaped the 11.11 install sequence, and now I cannot even boot off the primary disks as seen above.

Also, please post the KB document, I cannot access it at this time.

Re: Machine will not boot

You will need either your Core OS media or a make_recovery tape or you could boot off of the network using make_net_recovery.

Re: Machine will not boot

I cannot even get to the point where I can upgrade the firmware, it's still stuck at:

I/O INIT 8701

Re: Machine will not boot

Was it working with 11.0? and did you notice the problem after trying to upgrade to 11i. As mentioned in my last post you need to re-install 11.0 from a Core OS CD or a make_recovery tape.

Re: Machine will not boot

Strange - after 8701 should be either an I/O test or Memory config - has it reached memory config?

Re: Machine will not boot

I was trying to upgrade to 11.11, I got as far as filesystem configuration during the install, then it bombed.

when I hit control-b and then "rs",

it never gets past this error now, although I am not totally sure it wasn't present before.

Re: Machine will not boot

Well, I hate to say this - but you are now at the point where you need to call HP (is your server under contract?).

As it sounds like a hardware issue now - as you can't get past the hardware tests...
