mae_recovery error

Hi All!
I'm trying to make a make_recovery tape but I got the error below:
vsurjux1@root:/ #make_recovery -A -C -d /dev/rmt/2m
Option -A specified. Entire Core Volume Group/disk will be backed up.

***************************************
HP-UX System Recovery
Going to create the tape.
make_recovery(472): /usr/bin/dd failed,res=512,errno=9
Cleanup
vsurjux1@root:/ #

Anyone can help me?
Thanx.

Re: mae_recovery error

Hi,

did you clean your tape drive and try again with new tape ?

Most of the times this is a solution.
Also could be a defect tape drive !

Re: mae_recovery error

Hi!
before your answers I got solutions searching here.
The tape was demaged. but the interesting was it was ok to work with tar or cpio. Only with make_recovery it got error.
Thanx.

Re: mae_recovery error

make_recovery uses "pax", which you can do a "man pax" for more info. It creates a tar or cpio type tape. The issue with the bad tape is because the first FILE (archive if you want to call it that) is a BOOTABLE file that needs to be perfect, it can't handle IO errors of any type, whereas tar and cpio can adjust to some tape errors and continue.

Re: mae_recovery error

Hi Claudio:

Just an addition - The make_recovery has been replaced with the new utility make_tape_recovery. Update your system with the latest patches and you will be able to use this utility. This has more flexibility and options to use with.
