Mailx or sendmail

Up until last week mailx worked on my server without having to have a fully qualified domain. Now that a third party vendor made a change in how all our emails are scanned at that location we have to have a fully qualified domain. Question is how do i do this and is there a way round this without doing it.

Re: Mailx or sendmail

Set the DM macro in sendmail.cf to the FQDomain name

DMyourdomain.com

then try mailx again...

Re: Mailx or sendmail

you can setup mail aliases in /etc/mail (for sendmail)....just do a man on aliases...it explains it pretty well.

Re: Mailx or sendmail

Use /etc/mail/aliases, also try to update you /etc/hosts or DNS with aliases entry.

Sometimes you may require the FQdomain in your /etc/resolv.conf.

Dj$tax.state.wv.us

Re: Mailx or sendmail

Dj$ is only if your machine doesn't know it's FQDN - DM is for masquerading - that is, all outgoing email will be sent as:

user@yourdomain.com

which should be allowed by your mail relay server...

Re: Mailx or sendmail

Shalom David,

By following the good advice above you may well be undoing what the third party vendor did.

Contact the vendor, and ask them to detail exactly what configuration files they touched and what they did.

Then ask them to explain why.

If in the context of their goals, you can restore mailx service to local users, go ahead.
