make_depots finds corrupt depots on HP-UX11i v3 Virtual Server Operating Enviroment

All,

I have been trying to copy my OS media to a depot to use for Ignite. Each time I insert DVD disk 1 from the Sept 2008 kit for HP-UX11i v3 VSOE I get 34 corrupt depots. I have two DVD sets and both give me the same error. Can someone else try to do a swcopy of all the software on their Disk 1 or use the command make_depot -r 11.31 -s "name of your mounted DVD or its DSF name" and let me know if I have two bad kits or is there a bad distribution.

Well last year when we were upgrading servers I hit something very very similar. Sorry don't remember the count of bad filesets, but the msg was along that line. Got new install disk...same exact thing....got yet another set of disk from our account rep and it finally worked.

I'm thinking somebody in quality control was outsourced and nobody was left to watch what is going out of the shop lately. Cause it sounds like bad DVD's being produced & shipped.

Even more strange - I copied an 11.23 EOE DVD onto another Ignite server (rx8640 running 11.31) but when copying the same DVD on this server (rx6600 - running 11.31) it came up with corruption on that too.

The 11.31 VSE DVD I've put in the rx8640 and that is copying without corruption

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the USB DVD drive on the rx6600

I had the same thought as Rita. QC was not done. Which concerns me. The DVD has no damage I can see so the source had to have an issue or the DVD burner used. I am using an RX8640. It could possible be the DVD drive in the system. I am going to try and get an ISO image I can download.

Yes if memory serves me correctly (very hazy these days !) I think the rx6600 was a VM host

Some time ago I had the same with a vm host and a many DVD applications, it turned out it is not the DVDs itself but a bug with the cdfs driver and the pagesize, see below, once we installed the patch all the depots worked (not fast but worked).

Check for patch PHKL_39114 or later.

Reason why it does not worK:

If the base page size(base_pagesize) is greater than
8 kilobytes then reads on the CD-ROM file system(CDFS) may
fail with EFAULT.
