make_net_recovery for installation server

Hi. In all the make_net_recovery documentation I have seen, I do not see any official strategy for doing a make_net_recovery on the Ignite-UX installation server. Where would you store the recovery image? I guess you would have to take a second server and make that the "backup" installation server whose responsibility is to only store the recovery images from the primary installation server. Or, you could just do a make_tape_recovery of the installation server, I suppose. However, in my case, I think that would require purchasing a DAT drive. The only tape drive available to me is an Ultrium LTO3 9600 and I do not think that is compatible with Ignite/make_tape_recovery.

Shalom,

the make_recovery image can be written to ANY NFS share that the client has read-write access.

The Image can be pulled from the same location by the Ignite server, so long as it has read access to the same share.

make_tape_recovery is a little more simple but as you note it requires a tape drive.

BTW an Ultrium 3 LTO is will work with make_tape_recovery. It does require an LVD SCSI connection, which is not a problem for an L class server.

Re: make_net_recovery for installation server

We have UNIX machines spread over two data centres. I have configured a single Ignite server at each site.

The Ignite servers at each site take images for all the machines at that site plus the other Ignite server, excluding the archive locations of course as these are way too big to be part of the image.

Thanks to all who have replied.

Steven, have you ever restored a network image of an Ignite installation server onto that same server? How did you do this?

When one of the Ignite clients go down, I will rely on Ignite-UX GUI residing on the Ignite Installation Server to get those clients running again. But what of the case when the Ignite Installation Server goes down. Where is the GUI to launch the restore of that server? Don't you need to set up alternate "backup" Ignite installation server somewhere to initiate the restore of your primary Ignite installation server? And if you set up this "backup" Ignite installation server, isnt there a requirement that it be on the same subnet as the primary Ignite installation server? Finding a server on the same subnet for this purpose is a problem for me.

Regarding the use of Ultrium with make_tape_recovery, our Ignite Installation server is an rx2620. I dont know if that has the LVD SCSI connection you speak of, but I will check.
