make one npar

We have an rp7410 with 2 Npar's. Each side is assigned a cell board with 4 cpu's. The user's want to make this one machine. I am new to npar's, Can I simply shut the OS We are not going to use any more down, and reallocate its cellboard to the live Npar?

Re: make one npar

You may want to contact HP directly on this but I do know that you can boot the primary or Genisis npar and run parremove to remove the intended npar and return it's resources to the pool.
/usr/sbin/parremove -p PartitionNumber [ -F ]

The npar to be removed must be inactive and have the ready to reconfig flag set. From the text book:

When a deactivated node partition needs to be removed, the parremove returns all its resources the available pool. An active partition is running the operating system, or has been shutdown without thr ready-to-reconfigure flag. An inactive/deactivated partition is not running an operating system and has the ready-to-reconfigure flag set.

Prerequisite:
kernel in the partition must be down.
Partition to be removed must be deactivated.

parremove succeeds if:

the partition (-p partition#) being removed is inactive/deactivated, the partition being forcibly removed (-F) is the current partition.

parremove fails if:

the partition (-p partition#) being removed is active,
the partition being forcibly removed (-F) is active and not the current partition.
If it has wheels or a skirt, you can't afford it.

Re: make one npar

1. Shutdown the 2nd NPAR
2. Then go to the 1st NPAR
3. Either use parmgr (X-Windows Based) or parremove to remove the 2nd NPAR...
4. Use parmgr or parmodify to add the 2nd NPAR's freed resources to the 1st NPAR
5. shutdown -R -y 0

Go to your GSP/MP (CTRL-B).. and check your nPars allocations... MA-CO to go back - it'll show you just 1 Partition Selection...

Re: make one npar

Why did you have to hard partition the rp7410 in the first place (inherited?)? It could just have been partitioned into one and use vPars (virtual partitions) to optimize resource use..
