Re: Make_recovery and make_tape_recovery..
Make_tape_recovery is the command used in newer versions of Ignite. Obviously, make_recovery is the older version. It is the standard recommendation that you get and use the latest version of Ignite, so you should be using make_tape_recovery.

SolutionYes Pete is right and make_recovery will be soon obsoleted. BUT ... There are major differences between these tools. For example make_recovery -A creates a usable image of your system while make_tape_recovery -A only includes files listed in /opt/ignite/recovery/mnr_essentials ...
The equivalence of make_recovery -A is rather something like make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00

Re: Make_recovery and make_tape_recovery..
I have attached specifics on the enhancements introduced with make_tape_recovery (introduced in the 3.2 versions of Ignite/UX). These are excerpted from the release notes, found on http://software.hp.com.
You might want to look over the complete release notes, which provide a lotmore info. Here's a link to the release notes:

Re: Make_recovery and make_tape_recovery..
One thing to look out for in make_tape_recovery. You should always set the backup to run to the no_rewind device e.g. /dev/rmt/0mn instead of /dev/rmt/0m
